| Hamamatsu is blessed with greenery and beautiful
landscapes. Lake Hamana and the Sea of Enshu are not only scenic but
also a great spot for marine sports, bustling with tourists every
summer. To feel the closeness to wildlife, just visit the mouth of
Magome River, where wild birds and animals live, or Nakatajima Dunes,
where sea turtles come to lay eggs. |

Nakatajima Dunes
Spreading 4 kilometers from east to west and 0.6
kilometers from north to south, Nakatajima Dunes are one of the three
largest dunes in Japan. The dunes are also well-known for beautiful
wind patterns in the sand, which are constantly changing depending
on the strength and direction of the wind. Every year, loggerhead
turtles come here to lay eggs from early summer to fall. |

The home to a wildlife conservation organization,
Sanctuary Japan. The information corner and the galleries help you
understand the value of conserving wildlife. |

Magome River Sanctuary
Located only 10 minutes away from downtown, the
mouth of Magome River is a sanctuary to many wild birds like sparrows,
ducks, and Japanese cormorants. Birdwatching sessions are also held
regularly here. |

Lake Hamana
Lake Hamana, with a mix of sea water and fresh
water, covers 6,880 hectares in area and is 141km in circumference.
There are hot springs, marine sports spots and various theme parks,
forming one great big resort area. |

The course around Lake Hamana allows you enjoy
a safe, refreshing cycling excursion. |

Lake Sanaru
The second largest lake in Shizuoka Prefecture,
following Lake Hamana. The surrounding woods and parks offer perfect
places for walking and jogging. Thousands of migrating birds flock
here from fall to winter, making it a great place for bird watching. |

Tenryu River
Originating in Nagano Prefecture, one of the country's
largest rivers is joined by many tributaries before it reaches the
Sea of Enshu. Its surrounding woods offer many areas where you can
enjoy wildlife and beautiful landscapes. |
Miyakoda River Hiking Trail
Enjoy crystal clear air and the aroma of trees
on this 19-km hiking trail, where you can stop at temples, shrines,
an observation deck, bridges, waterfalls and more.

Bentenjima
Hot Spring
Look for a red torii, or gate, in the lake
and you'll find Bentenjima, a hot spring resort with many hotels and
Japanese-style inns to choose from. You can enjoy swimming, fishing,
clam digging, and marine sports here. The fireworks festival in July
is also well-known. |

Ryugashi-do Cavern@

The largest limestone cavern in the Tokai area. Countless stalactites
grown over 250 million years create a mysterious atmosphere in the

Takizawa Observation Deck
From the observation deck located at the north
end of Miyakoda Hiking Trail, you can enjoy the scenic view all the
way to the Sea of Enshu.

Washizawa Fuketsu
This is known to be a very rare cave in Japan
because it has horizontal ceilings. Enter the mouth which is surrounded
with limestone, and move further into the cave to find interestingly-shaped
natural stones. |
